Rubbish Science & Kids League Kenya
Our first international training is a wrap!
Funded by a British Council Connecting Classrooms grant, attending from the Kids League office in Mombasa, Kenya, using the newly installed internet café were representatives from 2 Mombasa twinned schools as well as the Kids League Kenya Administrator and a former KLK scholar.
Also attending on-line from Nairobi was a current KLK scholar and from UK were representatives from the 2 UK twinning schools Neil Atkin (Operation Orphan Rubbish Science trainer) ably and enthusiastically led the workshop which was coordinated by Operation Orphan Kenyan representative, Ann Dudley.
The 3 hour workshop focused on how to encourage and nurture young scientists from all backgrounds, using 'rubbish' for equipment, to realize how they can collaborate and even compete to find solutions for every day eco-challenges on equal terms.
All are already looking forward to next term when it is expected that the schools will join in science-based projects using only re-recyclable waste products to even up the playing field between how the schools' experience every day life in relatively wealthy and disadvantaged areas of the world
