Putting the "Fun" in Fundraising

Here at Operation Orphan, we are lucky to have so many wonderful fundraisers taking on challenges and organising events to support our projects.

These range from bake sales to marathons, and everything in between! In recent months, with lockdown and social restrictions in place, our supporters have been getting even more creative with their fundraising ideas. Here are a few stories of what they’ve been up to…

Taking Ten
Linda’s church normally hosts a 10k run every year to raise funds for charity - but this year, they challenged their congregation to do something ten times a day for the summer instead. Linda chose to raise money for Operation Orphan by climbing the 39 steps in her home TEN times a day for July and August - phew! That can’t have been easy in the summer heat - but Linda said that she enjoyed the challenge, especially the views she got to enjoy from the top of the house! Thank you so much to Linda and everyone who donated to this ten-tastic challenge. See more from Linda here:

Taking the Cake
Moji, owner of Moreish Cuisine Cakes, decided to put her creative baking skills to use in a charity cake auction. Recruiting local bakers and creating her own masterpieces especially for the virtual event, Moji managed to raise a delicious £135 for Operation Orphan by putting the sweet treats up for auction on Instagram. They look too good to eat - almost! We are so grateful to Moji, the bakers, and the bidders, who helped raise funds to help us change lives for a brighter future.

Taking a Break
It’s Veronica’s 40th birthday this month - and to celebrate, she’s foregoing the tradtitional party, and instead going for an early night! This may not sound like a challenge to some, but for Veronica, it’s a way to break a habit and build a new sleep routine:

The habit I have is that I pretty much fall asleep on the sofa every night... Logically and rationally I know that a good night's sleep is needed for so many health and wellbeing reasons but I have been unable to stop myself doing this............until now!

Veronica is hoping that by getting a good night’s sleep, she can give a good night’s sleep too, by donating the funds raised to our Covid-19 Response - part of which includes providing beds and bedding to vulnerable children here in the UK. One week down and Veronica’s off to a strong sleepy start! Follow her story here.

A super huge THANK YOU goes out to all our fundraisers, supporters, and donors who have taken on so many different and unique challenges to support our projects. Our 100% promise means that every penny we receive goes directly towards supporting the children through our projects, as our UK admin costs are underwritten by corporate sponsors.

Do you have a idea to put the “fun” in fundraising? Would you like to get involved to help us support orphaned and vulnerable children around the world? We’d love to hear from you - get in touch here!
