NCS, Social Action

The National Citizen Service (NCS) offer 15-17 year olds the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can do. One part of the programme is “Social Action” and we are extremely grateful that this summer ‘Group Seven’ chose to support Operation Orphan with their fundraising efforts – great job guys!

NCS Group Seven, supported by Rebecca Cassidy (support mentor) and Armani Quarrington-Gray (lead mentor) decided for their social action project to fundraise for Operation Orphan through events including a water fight festival and a cookies for charity sale.

Group Seven were responsible for planning the water fight which included designing a poster, marketing through Snapchat, creating a list of resources and identifying the aim. The team held the refreshing water fight festival on the hottest day of the year and also ran games such as bulldog, tag and dodge the water balloon. They also sold drinks and ice creams as well as doing henna tattoos. The water fight festival was attended by members of the public as well as other NCS groups and they managed to raise £40.

After running the water fight festival, Group Seven also wanted to plan a cookies for charity bake sale. They created their own banner to raise awareness of the event, marketed through Snapchat and word of mouth, created a list of recipes and ingredients needed as well as delegating roles for each member of the group. The team baked the cookies fresh while also selling doughnuts, a chocolate cake and hot chocolate. Each member of the group took it in turns to help sell the goodies and really pulled together a successful event.  Everything sold like hot cakes and a total of £23.75 was raised.

Group Seven had the best time fundraising for Operation Orphan and handing in the money at the end of the week was the icing on the cake!
