Earthquake in Myanmar

Myanmar has experienced a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake near Mandalay, its second-largest city.

The quake caused widespread destruction, with buildings collapsing and infrastructure severely damaged. Tragically, over 1,700 lives have been lost, with thousands injured and many still missing. Rescue efforts are ongoing, but challenges like damaged roads and limited resources are slowing progress.

The country is also grappling with a prolonged civil war, which has displaced millions and strained its healthcare and infrastructure systems. This conflict complicates rescue and relief efforts, as some areas are difficult or unsafe to access.

It's a heartbreaking situation, and our Crisis Response Team has put in an offer of assistance to the embassy to deploy a small, skilled team, to help identify, make safe, and keep safe children who have been orphaned by the disaster.
